Glider

The glider is an unpowered aircraft that flies using atmospheric currents used for gliding. In Vauville, 2 types of flight are possible depending on the weather and the season: thermal flight using hot air currents after take-off behind the tug microlight and slope flight using the westerly wind which hits the cliffs of Biville in Goury after a winch take-off.

Learning to glide

The European glider pilot license (SPL) is obtained after a theoretical examination and a practical examination.

It is possible to start learning the glider from the age of 14, a medical examination with an approved aeronautical doctor is necessary.

Theoretical training

The theoretical training is carried out by E-learning from your computer and accompanied by the instructor as you progress. A written exam, passed within the club, confirms the end of this training.

Practical training

The practical training is provided by our 2 instructors and is carried out on two-seater gliders ASK-13 and ASK-21.

The primary objective is to fly alone on board under the supervision of an instructor. About twenty hours of dual flight is generally necessary during this phase.

The next objective is to obtain the SPL after about ten hours of additional flight in double as well as solo. The certificate is obtained after a flight examination with an examining instructor.

Initiation flight

The club offers initiation flights in a glider to begin and taste the joys of flight lasting about twenty minutes, its cost is 90 €.
